1000 Minutes Program
The goal of 1000 Minutes is to help players develop individual skills and build confidence with the ball – outside normal team practices and games. It is a supplementary program that can be done entirely at home, or away from the AYSO fields. You can do this alone or with a friend. If you put in 1000 minutes of practice during the season, you will get a cool prize!. And don't forget, attending PowerSkills counts towards your 1000 minutes.
The starting date for your practice minutes is August 1st each year, and the deadline for getting in your 1000 Minutes is May 10 each year.
1000 Minutes Sounds Like A lot
1000 minutes is a lot of practice; not everyone who starts the 1000 minutes program gets in all the time. But those who do find that they are better players as a result. Even though 1000 minutes is a lot of time, it is not impossible. If you attend PowerSkills for all four sessions in the spring and fall, you will get several hours of practice. That's a whole lot towards the 1000.
Let's say you don't attend PowerSkills at all - then what? Well, 1000 minutes is just over 33 thirty-minute sessions in your backyard. So, if you go out back twice a week and spend 30 minutes kicking the ball around, in 17 weeks you can have your 1000 minutes. The key is to get out and play. If you do that, the minutes will add up.
I Don't Know What to Practice
Lots of parents and players are unsure what is the most useful way to spend 1000 minutes of practice. To help, AYSO has created a manual, 1000 Minutes to Better Soccer.
